Eurotek presents its new extrusion head for HFFR cables

Eurotek is expanding its range of solutions for the cable industry with a new extrusion head developed to increase production capacity when processing HFFR compounds, while keeping material concentricity, pressure, and temperature under control.
The project draws on the company’s thirty years of experience in extrusion, combined with the use of advanced flow simulation software. The study focused on the rheological behavior of complex compounds, including HFFR, XHFFR, and XL-HFFR, during high-speed processing.
A new geometry to manage pressure and throughput
The analysis showed that, as production speed increases, conventional configurations can generate a significant increase in internal pressure.
To address this issue, the company developed an entirely new flow channel geometry from scratch. According to the company, the result is an extrusion head designed to ensure:
- Higher throughput and production speed without compromising concentricity: simulations on a 2.5 mm² product with a 2.07 mm conductor show line speeds of up to 1,200 m/min, with HFFR insulation output increasing from 455 kg/h at 900 m/min to 606 kg/h at 1,200 m/min.
- Stable operating pressure: in the assessment performed at 1,200 m/min using high-viscosity HFFR, the simulation indicates pressures of 300 bar on the Ø120 extruder and 520 bar on the Ø60 extruder.
- Controlled material temperatures, thanks to optimized flow channel geometries
- Consistent quality and performance, even during high-speed production: with a 0.67 mm HFFR insulation layer and a 0.1 mm HFFR skin. In the simulation at 1,200 m/min, skin output reaches 116 kg/h, compared with 87 kg/h calculated at 900 m/min.
With this extrusion head, Eurotek aims to combine higher productivity with process reliability in the extrusion of cables using HFFR compounds.
