TTE to present automated double-wall pipe insulation line with grinding and filling systems

TTEngineering has developed extensive experience in the manufacture of double-wall pipe systems used in the field of chimney pipes, grease exhaust ducts, and supply ducts.

The core of this production technology lies in the insulation stage, where thermo-insulating materials (rockwool, ceramics, and glass fibers) are automatically injected into both linear pipes and accessories, such as elbows and T-fittings. This process, which has been continuously improved over the years, has passed the most stringent tests by the leading certification bodies in US, Canada, Russia, Europe, Northern Europe, and Turkey, including approvals for offshore applications.

The system consists of two main machines for insulating material processing:

- DPL grinding station
- DPI filling station

DPL grinding station

In the DPL grinding station, raw insulating material supplied in bales, sacks (up to 1 m³), or recycled scraps undergoes a first phase of grinding and transport, followed by an additional, calibrated grinding phase.

The newest DPL version includes a cyclone-based dust extraction system equipped with a rotary valve, enabling the recovery and recycling of nearly 100% of the collected powder. All moving parts in contact with the insulation material are manufactured from special anti-wear steel to extend the lifetime of wear components. The system also includes 10 independent augers that, through level sensors, automatically supply the correct amount of insulating material and convey into the feeding process.

DPI filling station

In the second stage of the process, the material is conveyed into one or more DPI units for subsequent injection into the interspace between the inner and the outer pipe using a high-pressure pump. The machine is equipped with dedicated tooling, designed according to the pipe inner diameter, while the positioning of the pipes onto the filling tools is carried out manually by the operator.

Once the cycle is initiated, the process is fully automatic and the operator has no direct contact with the insulating material, ensuring a safe working environment in compliance with the highest security standards. To guarantee process reliability the weight of each component is checked in order to ensure a perfect filling and therefore a consistent quality of the finished double-wall pipe.

Overview of TTE’s double-wall pipe production line

Processing range and pipe-end sealing solutions

The systems can process pipes with a 25, 50 or 75-mm interspace, and diameters ranging from an internal of min 80 mm up to an external of max 1200 mm.

To streamline the production of double-wall pipes, TTEngineering has designed and patented a flexible metal ring, designed to seal pipe ends and minimize heat transmission from the internal to the external pipe. As an alternative pipe-end solution, a rigid insulating ring can be supplied, depending on the required application and performance specifications.
