Drahtwerk Wagener discusses global market challenges ahead of wire Düsseldorf

Among the exhibitors at the upcoming edition of wire Düsseldorf will be Drahtwerk Wagener GmbH & Co. KG, a German producer of drawn wire and semi-finished products for a wide range of industrial applications.
Ahead of the event, we spoke with Mr. Markus Giese, CEO of Drahtwerk Wagener, about the company’s long-standing participation in the trade fair, the current market environment, and what visitors can expect from this year’s edition.
wire Düsseldorf as a key industry meeting point
How important is wire Düsseldorf for your company?
For us, the trade fair in Düsseldorf is a highlight in the calendar every two years. We always look forward to it, regardless of how business is going at the moment. Nowhere else can you meet so many business partners—customers, suppliers and interested parties—in such a short time. The days are intense and exhausting, but you hardly notice the fatigue. Every day you discover new ideas and insights, which often translate into improvements and new initiatives once we return to everyday business.
Economic and geopolitical topics in focus
Which industry topics do you expect to dominate discussions this year?
This year, economic issues will clearly play a major role. The global environment has changed significantly over the past year under Donald Trump’s administration, not least because of the dramatic increase in tariffs. At the same time, the current war with Iran is a major concern for many companies. Beyond these geopolitical developments, we also expect a lot of discussion around CBAM and the European Union’s planned tariffs, which are expected to replace the current safeguard measures. All these topics are shaping the global steel and wire markets, so they will certainly be part of many conversations during the exhibition.
A global meeting place for the wire industry
What are your expectations for this year’s edition of the fair?
We expect a large number of visitors from all over the world and we are very much looking forward to it. For me personally, this international exchange is always a clear demonstration that companies around the world genuinely want to do business with each other in a constructive and peaceful way. When buyers and sellers meet, exchange ideas and build partnerships, both sides benefit. Ultimately, this kind of cooperation creates prosperity and progress.
With the global wire industry gathering once again in Düsseldorf, Drahtwerk Wagener will use the event as an opportunity to meet partners from across the value chain and to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the market today.
